Paraty is a small colonial village in between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In the old days, its port was used for the goldexport, gold which was found in Minas Merais in the 18th century. Later on, coffee was another important product for export. After independence from Portugal, the gold stayed within the country, streets have been built, but Paraty's port was too flat for big ships, thus the village has been forgotten. Consequently, the old colonial town-centre stayed pretty much the same from the 18th century on and nowadys is under denkmalschutz. Going for a walk through the small, picturesque lanes with the beautiful view to the port and the rich vegetation of the coastal mountains is gonna be unforgettable. Further highlights are the boat-trip through Paraty's bay, going past numerous little islands and beaches, and besides that an excursion to Trindade and its stunning beaches.
