The Ilha Comprida is a natural paradise. Its vegetation is mostly untouched and and partly listed for environmental protection! Besides a wonderful flora and fauna the island is home for the only sand dunes existing in the Federal State of Sao Paulo. In between the island and the mainland there are mangroves which are very important for regional fish. The mangroves pose excellent conditions for reproduction! Besides that, Ilha Comprida is ideal for bird-watching. In the south, there is a dense forest right behind the sand dunes, which is home for numerous plants, e.g many rare Orchids and Bromelains. Many biologists and botanists are attracted to that region due to the rich vegetation.
